VP Sara Faces Case Over Death Threat Comment

Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed that she has received a summon from the Office of the Prosecutor. This is related to a complaint filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against her. The complaint is about her earlier statement that she ordered someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if they ever planned to kill her.

VP Sara mentioned this in an interview on Tuesday night in Sogod, Southern Leyte.

She said, “In fact, I also received a summon from the Office of the Prosecutor for the case filed by the NBI against me.”

Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon also confirmed that the Vice President has been summoned. The first hearings are scheduled for May 9 and May 16.

Last February, the NBI recommended filing charges of inciting to sedition and making grave threats against Duterte. This followed her statement in an online press conference where she admitted that she had given orders to kill the President, his wife, and cousin if they succeeded in a plan to kill her.

VP Sara later explained that she was not joking when she made the statement. However, she later clarified that she did not threaten the lives of the Marcos family. She claimed her words were misunderstood and taken out of context.
