The Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has accomplished a significant project to widen the Mindoro West Coastal Road. This was done at Barangay Casague, Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro. This is part of their ongoing work to improve infrastructure and make it easier for people to get about.

The project is about the growing number of cars using the highway, which is a key link between the province’s business centers and towns. The new route makes driving easier every day and helps local businesses by reducing traffic congestion and making sure that traffic flows more smoothly.

District Engineer Junie A. Lupango, who worked for Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director, claimed that the project included a lot of work on the existing road. Adding 2.5-meter-wide concrete shoulders on both sides, metal guardrails, and 104 meters of grouted riprap to protect the slope of the embankment made the road wider from 6.7 meters to 13.4 meters. The project also included thermoplastic pavement markings to make the roadways safer and easier to see, especially at night and in severe weather.
The finished four-lane freeway is predicted to have a variety of advantages:
More Safety: Wider lanes, guardrails, and road shoulders make it less likely that accidents will happen.
Getting around is easier when there isn’t as much traffic. You can get to towns and the areas around them faster.
Better Local Economy: Farmers, dealers, and small enterprises can get their goods to market faster when they move more smoothly, especially those related to farming and fishing.
Regional Connectivity: More roads in Occidental Mindoro and the rest of the MIMAROPA area make it easier for people to come and invest.
