Barangay Poctoy is located along the shore of Odiongan and has been one of the most susceptible settlements in Romblon during heavy rains and storm surges for a long time.

Today, people may breathe easier since the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Romblon District Engineering Office (DEO) has finished the second phase of its coastal road project. This project is meant to protect lives and livelihoods from flooding and other disasters that happen again and again.

Romblon District Engineer Elena M. Castilan told DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, that the project was finished. The infrastructure includes a road that is 6.7 meters wide and 190 linear meters long. It has a pre-cast curb and gutter, a walkway that is 100 mm thick and has solar-powered LED street lights, and stairs and ramps that are made to help local fishermen.

Not only does this development make it easier for people to get around, but it also makes the town safer from natural disasters. Now that the project is done, inhabitants and their livelihoods are safer and better able to handle storm surges. This makes Barangay Poctoy safer and better prepared for disasters.
