The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced red and yellow alerts for the Luzon grid and a yellow alert for the Visayas grid for the fourth consecutive day.
The alerts are due to forced outages at certain power plants and reduced capacity operations at others, as reported by NGCP.
The Luzon Grid will experience red status during specific hours:
- 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Yellow status will be in effect during these hours:
- 12 noon to 3 p.m.
- 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The Visayas grid will be under a yellow alert from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and then again from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Current capacity figures show that the Luzon grid has 13,954 MW available against a peak demand of 13,127 MW, while the Visayas grid has 2,484 MW available against a peak demand of 2,504 MW.
Red alerts indicate insufficient power supply to meet demand and operational needs, while yellow alerts signify a narrow operating margin that may not cover contingency needs adequately.
