It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the renowned actress Jaclyn Jose. She won the Cannes Film Festival and attained international acclaim. It was revealed by several media outlets that she passed away in the late hours of March 3. As of right now, we don’t know what caused her death. Shortly after the rumors spread, Jose’s talent agency, PPL Entertainment Inc., released a statement.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Miss Jaclyn Jose, known by her real name Mary Jane Guck. Further details will be shared as they become available.
“The Guck and Eigenmann families respectfully ask for everyone’s prayers for Miss Jaclyn Jose’s everlasting repose during this difficult time. “They also want privacy and respect to process her loss and get through these trying times,” the statement said. Jose, who was born on October 21, 1964, as Mary Jane Guck, became well-known in the film industry working with filmmakers like Lino Brocka and Chino Roño.
In addition to her achievements in the film industry, Jose made history in 2016 when she became the first Filipino to win the Best Actress Award at the renowned Cannes Film Festival for her outstanding performance in Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma’Rosa.” She also graced Philippine television screens with her presence, starring in popular dramas from the 1990s to the present.
Her most recent role was as Chief Espinas in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” Jaclyn Jose is survived by her children, actresses Andi Eigenmann and Gwen Ilagan Guck. Notable dramas include “Mula Sa Puso,” “Marimar,” and “Alyas Robinhood.”
