MANILA, Philippines — At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the Marikina River hit its third alarm level, triggering a mandatory evacuation for residents near the river and in low-lying areas.
According to an advisory from the Marikina Public Information Office (PIO), the river’s water level surged to a “dangerous” 18 meters and is expected to rise further.
Residents are advised to seek shelter at the designated evacuation centers set up by the local government.
Earlier in the day, the river sounded its second alarm at 6:45 a.m., following the first alarm at 4:30 a.m. when the water level reached 15 meters.
