President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reminded the public to be cautious about fake news during the campaign period.
The President said people should not immediately believe false news related to the upcoming elections in May.
In his weekly vlog, the President also mentioned that fake news exists even outside the campaign season.
He added that campaigns often come with rumors and mudslinging, which now happen online.
“The truth is, whether it’s campaign season or not, fake news is always there. It’s part of the campaign, and people should be careful,” said Marcos.
The President also pointed out that during rallies of the Alliance for a New Philippines, real people are seen supporting administration candidates, not just “keyboard warriors” or trolls.
“The new Filipino knows how to tell right from wrong information, so we should be extra careful about what we read online,” the President added.
He also said that the government’s programs and services cannot be faked because the people themselves prove their success through their gratitude to the government.
