Compostela, Davao de Oro – On July 8, 2024, an injured Philippine Eagle was reported by Mr. Elyjun Acedo of DENR-PENRO Davao de Oro. The eagle, found by the Philippine Army in Barangay Mangayon, Compostela, had a left-wing injury. Despite rescue efforts by the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), the eagle, named “Mangayon,” succumbed to severe injuries and blood loss.
This marks the 20th eagle rescue case since 2020, highlighting the ongoing threat to the critically endangered national bird. The Philippine Eagle Foundation is urging increased government intervention and funding to prevent further losses.
