Face masks do not protect people from monkeypox or Mpox.
This was clearly explained yesterday by Department of Health (DOH) Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo.
According to Domingo, there is no reason to increase the price of face masks because they are not effective in stopping Mpox.
Domingo said Mpox is not airborne, so wearing face masks will not help prevent it. Even if someone wears a mask, they can still get infected if they have close contact, like hugging or kissing someone who has the disease.
He also explained that Mpox is not a sexually transmitted disease. It can spread through skin-to-skin contact, even just from hugging or kissing.
“Face masks are not the way to stop Mpox. Don’t raise the price or say there is high demand because the DOH has already said face masks are not used for Mpox,” Domingo said.
“What matters here is skin-to-skin contact.”
