Sonny Angara, the education secretary, announced that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program would construct 15,000 new classrooms by 2027. In Malacañang, the concept was submitted to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This came after a technical assistance deal with the PPP Center was signed in December.
An estimated P37.5 billion to P60 billion would be spent on the PPP School Infrastructure Project. Approximately 600,000 kids nationwide will benefit from it.
Angara acknowledged the challenge of addressing the 165,000-classroom shortage but expressed optimism. “The classroom gap is a massive challenge, but we believe that leveraging private investments through PPPs is the most efficient and sustainable way to address this,” he said.
Additionally, plans to digitize and solarize schools are set to begin by mid-2026.
“With strategic partnerships and digital investments, DepEd is committed to closing both classroom and digital gaps to create a future-ready education system. This will produce graduates who are competitive and highly employable,” Angara added.
