President Donald Trump has claimed that the U.S. may have “lost” India and Russia to China, following a high-profile meeting between the three countries’ leaders at a summit in China.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”

The comment came after Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin.
The SCO, once a regional security group, has evolved into a platform challenging U.S. influence. The three leaders expressed warm relations, despite tensions with the U.S. over Russia’s war in Ukraine, China’s global ambitions, and trade issues.

Trump’s criticism also highlights strained U.S.-India ties during his presidency, including tariff disputes and Modi’s dismissal of Trump’s claims about mediating India-Pakistan tensions.
Earlier this week, Trump accused China, Russia, and North Korea of “conspiring” against the U.S. during a Beijing military parade. Both Chinese and Russian officials denied any such plot, with a Russian aide suggesting Trump may have been speaking ironically.

While India’s participation in the summit raised eyebrows, experts note that New Delhi still maintains strong ties with Washington, particularly through defense and the Quad alliance.
