Tesla Phone Rumors: Is the Pi Phone Real?

The internet has been buzzing with rumors about Tesla’s potential foray into the smartphone market, with many claiming that the company is developing a phone called the “Model Pi” or “P.” However, a closer look at the available information reveals that these rumors lack concrete evidence and are mostly based on speculation.

The idea of a Tesla phone gained traction in 2021 when a YouTube video showcased a concept design for what was dubbed the Tesla Model Pi. Despite being purely a designer’s concept and not an official leak, many online sources have used this video to fuel speculation about Tesla entering the smartphone industry.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, has directly addressed these rumors on several occasions, denying any plans for a Tesla smartphone. In a livestream held in June 2024, Musk stated, “We are not going to do a Tesla phone,” putting to rest the hopes of many who had been eagerly anticipating such a device. This was not the first time Musk had spoken about the possibility. In November 2023, following Tesla’s acquisition of Twitter (now X), Musk hinted at developing an “alternative phone” if X faced app store restrictions, though he later dismissed the idea.

Despite Musk’s denials, some industry analysts, including those from Morgan Stanley, believe that a Tesla phone might still be in the company’s future. They argue that a Tesla smartphone would complement the brand’s ecosystem, which already integrates cars and smartphones for features like unlocking vehicles remotely.

For now, Musk’s official stance remains clear: Tesla is not working on a smartphone. While rumors about a “Tesla Pi phone” continue to circulate, claiming groundbreaking features such as a battery that never needs charging and internet access via Starlink, there is no verified information to support these claims.

As of now, the Tesla phone remains nothing more than a product of speculation.
