Malacañang has also removed Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Deputy Administrator Emma Sinclair from her position. This is because of her alleged involvement in a questionable P1.4 billion land purchase deal with former OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Sinclair was removed due to a loss of trust and confidence related to the land deal.
“Aside from that, another person involved is the deputy administrator Emma Sinclair. Both of them were removed. They were not asked to resign,” Castro explained.
According to Castro, this should serve as a warning to all government officials that they can be removed if they do not do their duties properly.
Earlier, Arnell Ignacio was removed from his position after being linked to the P1.4 billion land purchase. The land was planned to be used for a dormitory-type accommodation for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) near NAIA Terminal 1.
Ignacio was replaced by the new OWWA Administrator, Patricia Yvonne Caunan.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they are still checking whether the project pushed through or not.
