No More SONA Banners—President Wants Flood Help First

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a stop to all preparations related to his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the President was unhappy after reports showed government workers putting up SONA materials while many communities were struggling with severe floods.

“The President is disappointed that some government staff are busy posting SONA-related posters in public areas while many Filipinos are suffering from heavy floods,” Bersamin said. Because of this, the President ordered all preparations to stop and focus instead on flood response and relief operations.

Bersamin also instructed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other agencies to prioritize relief efforts and flood solutions to ensure people’s safety and well-being during the crisis.

He hopes all government offices will follow the order to help those affected by the floods.

“The President’s directive is to focus all efforts on ensuring the safety and welfare of the Filipino people, especially during this crisis,” Bersamin added.

Yesterday, photos circulated on social media showing workers putting up posters and images of the President for his upcoming SONA on Monday, July 28. Many people reacted negatively to these posts.
