Romblon, Romblon – September 24, 2025
Residents of Romblon now have a stronger sense of security as a new four-story multi-purpose building has officially risen in Barangay Capaclan. Built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Romblon District Engineering Office, the facility will serve not only as an evacuation center during calamities but also as a hub for government and community activities.

Covering a 648-square-meter floor area, the building was designed with the people in mind. It houses a spacious function hall for gatherings and events, satellite offices for government services, and dedicated evacuation rooms where families can find safety and comfort during emergencies.

District Engineer Elena M. Castilan, who reported the project to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, said the facility reflects the government’s commitment to protect communities in times of need. “This building is more than just concrete and walls—it is a place where residents can feel secure, especially when disaster strikes,” she noted.

The project also aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s priority to strengthen disaster response and recovery across the country.
For the people of Romblon, the newly built multi-purpose center stands as both a safe refuge and a symbol of resilience, ready to serve them in times of crisis and beyond.
