For the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Lisa of the popular Korean girl group Blackpink and Jungkook of the globally renowned K-pop boy band BTS have each received multiple nominations.
Jungkook and Lisa are both nominated for Best K-Pop: Lisa with her song “Rockstar” and Jungkook with his song “Seven,” which he collaborated on with rapper Latto.
Competing with them in the Best K-Pop category are NCT Dream’s “Smoothie,” NewJeans’ “SuperShy,” Stray Kids’ “Lalala,” and Tomorrow X Together’s “Deja Vu.”
In addition to his nomination for Best K-Pop, Jungkook’s song “Seven” is also nominated for Best Collaboration, a competitive category that includes Taylor Swift, Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, and Post Malone.
Lisa’s “Rockstar” has received further nominations in three professional categories: Best Editing, Best Art Direction, and Best Choreography.
At the previous year’s MTV VMAs, K-Pop was well-represented. Blackpink won Best Choreography and Group of the Year for their song “Pink Venom.” Stray Kids won Best K-Pop. Tomorrow X Together won MTV Push Performance of the Year for their song “Sugar Rush Ride.” Song of the Summer went to Jungkook’s “Seven.”
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will be held on September 10, 2024 (September 11 in the Philippines).
