President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is worried because more young Filipinos are now getting chronic kidney disease (CKD).
During his visit to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), the President saw a child undergoing dialysis. He was there for the launch of new benefits from PhilHealth for people with kidney problems.
Because of this, the President told the Department of Health (DOH) to create a program to stop the rising number of CKD cases in the country.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa explained that most CKD cases come from diabetes and high blood pressure.
The President also got alarmed that too much sugar in the food we eat might be a reason. He ordered that ways should be found to reduce sugar in foods.
To avoid kidney disease, President Marcos advised young people to stay away from sweet foods. This can help prevent diabetes, which can later cause kidney problems.
