Massive Fire in Ormoc City, Flamed A Lot of Houses

Ormoc City – A devastating fire ravaged a village in Ormoc City yesterday evening, causing a trail of destruction and displacing numerous families. The fire, which erupted at approximately 7:35 PM on February 22, 2024, consumed a significant portion of Jasmin Street in Barangay Cogon, Ormoc City.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene as flames rapidly spread into homes, escalating to a staggering 3rd alarm. Firefighters were swiftly mobilized, with multiple fire stations from Ormoc and neighboring areas joining forces to combat the blaze. Despite the collaboration of firefighters, a total of 51 houses fell victim to the fire incident.

Thankfully, there were no reported fatalities resulting from the fire. However, one individual identified as Ivan Caliwan suffered injuries during the incident.

The intense firefighting operation persisted for several hours, finally bringing the flame under control by 10:25 PM. Initial assessments indicate that the blaze caused partial damages estimated at P774,000.

In the wake of the disaster, the affected families found temporary refuge at the covered court facilities in Barangay Cogon and Doña Feliza Mejia. Ormoc City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) swiftly sprang into action, coordinating assistance efforts to aid the displaced residents.

Meanwhile, authorities from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the devastating blaze. Speculations regarding the origin of the fire abound, yet conclusive findings remain pending as investigators meticulously sift through the charred remnants.

Despite this misfortune, Ormoc City remains steadfast in its resolve to emerge stronger from the ashes, demonstrating unwavering resilience in the face of adversity.
