A 13-year-old athlete from Eastern Visayas, Chrisia Mae Tajarros, won the first gold medal in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa held on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Chrisia finally got her gold after missing it in 2024. Last year, she only won a silver medal in the same event.
This time, she finished first place in the 3000-meter run for secondary girls, beating all her opponents.
Chrisia set her personal best time of 10 minutes and 18.6 seconds. She was followed by Mary Mae Magbanua from CARAGA Region (10:48.4) and Nathalie Faye Miguel from Region 1 (10:50.4).
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region (NCR) is aiming to win its 18th straight overall championship title in the Palarong Pambansa.
Last year, in 2024, NCR took home 98 gold medals, 66 silver medals, and 74 bronze medals, finishing first overall. Calabarzon Region and Western Visayas followed in second and third place.
