The Philippine National Police (PNP) reports that former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo would be tested for tuberculosis after medical professionals discovered a possible lung infection.
Col. Jean Fajardo, a spokesman for the PNP, disclosed that the infection was found during a medical test that took place before Guo was sent to the Pasig City Jail. “The PNP General Hospital and the Forensic Group conducted a standard medical and physical examination, and during the process, doctors found a likely infection in her left lung,” Fajardo said. Her course of treatment will now be determined by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
A chest X-ray verified the lung infection, which may have started during the weekend, and Fajardo also indicated that Guo had been suffering of a cough and cold days before her transfer. After his capture in Indonesia, Guo was detained at the PNP Custodial Center.
Guo will be placed in isolation along with three other prisoners who are undergoing tuberculosis treatment, according to BJMP spokeswoman Supt. Jayrex Joseph Bustinera, because of the potential lung infection. Bustinera stated, “Her medical condition has been confirmed, and we’ve recommended that she be isolated.” Guo will be transferred to the regular jail population after her medical condition has cleared.
