ASF Outbreak Expands to 458 Barangays Nationwide

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) has reported that the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in the Philippines has spread to 458 barangays across 32 provinces. This represents a significant increase from the 22 provinces reported on August 8, with the number of affected barangays nearly doubling from 251.

North Cotabato, with 87 barangays affected, Occidental Mindoro with 69, and Batangas with 66, are among the most impacted areas. In Luzon, 312 barangays are designated as “pink zones” (buffer zones), representing the majority of affected areas, while the Visayas and Mindanao have 98 and 47 pink zones, respectively.

Additionally, Luzon has 58 barangays in the “yellow zone” (under surveillance), the Visayas has 13, and Mindanao has 29.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel announced that controlled ASF vaccination efforts have begun in Batangas, with 10,000 vaccines expected to arrive soon.
