Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Speaker of the 19th Congress, and the Tingog Party-list have started disaster monitoring and relief efforts. This is following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s order to help areas affected by Severe Tropical Storm Crising and heavy rains from the habagat (southwest monsoon).
Even before the 20th Congress begins next week, Romualdez said his office and Tingog Party-list leaders are working with local officials, national agencies, and private groups to bring aid to those in need.
“We can’t stay silent as communities suffer and people worry. Public service doesn’t stop when Congress is not in session. We must act now,” Romualdez said.
“I understand their struggle—my home province, Leyte, has faced terrible disasters. No one should face these hardships alone,” he added.
His office and Tingog Party-list have reopened their Relief Coordination Desk, which helped many lawmakers during past typhoons and the COVID-19 crisis. This team will handle urgent requests and field operations.
Romualdez also asked Filipinos to help in any way they can.
“You don’t need to be a congressman or an official to help. Everyone can do something, even praying for those affected,” he said.
