Malacañang dismissed former President Rodrigo Duterte’s claim that President Bongbong Marcos might declare martial law, just like his father, Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the claim is baseless and ridiculous. He added that Filipinos do not believe Duterte’s statements because he often lies and spreads false stories.
“We see the former president’s statement as another false story from someone who keeps making up lies,” Bersamin said.
Bersamin also called Duterte’s accusation a “hoax” and described him as a “one-man fake news factory.”
“This is another trick from someone who creates fake news,” he said.
The Palace assured the public that the government will always respect the Constitution, follow the rule of law, and protect people’s rights.
Bersamin also said the Marcos administration will not repeat the past administration’s actions, such as jailing opponents and celebrating killings.
During a rally in Mandaue City, Cebu, last Saturday, Duterte claimed that Marcos might declare martial law like his late father to stay in power.
