Senator Sherwin Gatchalian wants college to be only three years instead of four.
He filed a bill called the Three-Year College Education (3CE) Act. This bill suggests that students spend just three years in college.
“When we added two years to high school, we promised students that college would be shorter. Now it’s time to keep that promise,” said Gatchalian.
Under the bill, college students will start right away with their major subjects. General Education (GE) subjects will be moved to senior high school.
The goal is to prepare students better for college and give them more time for internships and advanced lessons in their field.
Gatchalian shared a study by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II), which showed that many college programs in the Philippines have too many GE subjects and not enough internships.
