CEBU CITY — Kyle Nathan Rey Fabian and Lediviere Joy Hebron, the Zamboanga Peninsula dancesport duo, earned six gold medals on Thursday at the Palarong Pambansa 2024 opening day at G Mall.
They competed at the juvenile or primary level, winning in the 5-Dance, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Tango, and Waltz. “It’s our first time at the Palaro, and winning gold is an incredible feeling,” stated Fabian. Hebron revealed that they had to undergo arduous training before traveling to Palarong Pambansa. She stated,”We trained five times a week.”
As the first-ever Palarong Pambansa dancesport medalists, the two achieved a significant milestone for Region 9 and their school, Montessori De Zamboanga. Their accomplishment was attributed by Coach Cedrick Tinapunan to their hard work and guidance of their instructors at the Philippine Dancesport Federation (PDSF). “I just stuck to what my teachers at PDSF taught me,” he stated.
This year’s Palarong Pambansa will see dancesport make its debut as a regular medal event, making it one of the most anticipated competitions at the yearly multi-sport festival.
The host city, Cebu City, is proud to call itself the global center of dancesports. With 7,770 people, the city broke the Guinness World Record for the largest dance in 2009 at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
