Writers and Director of “Hello, Love, Again” Reveal Sequel Plot and Scout Locations in Canada

The production team behind “Hello, Love, Again,” the reunion film starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, has already done immersion activities and interviews with Canadians, both Filipinos and non-Filipinos, according to director Cathy Garcia-Sampana.

Online news source Deadline verified yesterday that the eagerly awaited follow-up to the 2019 hit film “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is real. An ABS-CBN special announcement event took place later that day.

Lead actors Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards called the plot of the follow-up “familiar but different,” a notion that the movie’s writer, Carmi Raymundo, also expressed.

The launching of HLG in 2019 brought about a lot of changes. According to Raymundo, the tale will take these international events into account. “The pandemic and global events have significantly altered the world, and these changes are incorporated into the sequel,” he added.

The main characters, Ethan and Joy, who split up in Hong Kong five years ago, appear to be developing a relationship, as suggested by additional author Crystal San Miguel.

“With the world changing, the characters have also undergone transformations. The big question is: has the love they have for each other changed as well?” San Miguel teased.

Like how the 2019 movie portrayed Filipinos in Hong Kong, the sequel will carry on the love story of Ethan and Joy while also showcasing the life and hardships of Filipino workers abroad in Canada.

The subject of this movie is Filipino laborers who reside and work overseas. I’m excited about Canada because it gives a new narrative and a different atmosphere and set of problems, as moving to a new nation brings with it new stories,” Garcia-Sampana said.

In addition, Raymundo revealed some interesting movie trivia, like the fact that the film took five years to make. She related an exchange regarding the souvenir watches that were props in the 2019 movie with one of their creators. Feeling in his bones that there will be a sequel, the producer asked them to preserve the props.

“Mrs. Cel said that she thought there will be a part two and advised us to store those props. There was a sense that a follow-up would occur even back then. It’s been five years in the making, because she pushed me to start writing immediately,” Raymundo said.

“Hello, Love, Again” is the first movie that GMA Pictures and Star Cinema have worked on together. On November 13, it is scheduled to debut in Philippine theaters.
