On Tuesday, a lady who was trying to sell a baby on Facebook was taken into custody by the Human Trafficking Division of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to the NBI, Muntinlupa City resident Christina Paule is accused of child trafficking.
Chief of the NBI Jaime Santiago said that an NBI agent pretended to be a buyer after learning via Facebook that Paule intended to sell the infant for P25,000.
“The agent communicated with the suspect, who identified herself as a midwife and offered a 6-day-old baby for sale. They arranged a meeting for the transaction,” stated the Justice Department.
“At the agreed location, the suspect introduced herself and presented the baby in exchange for money. Once her intent to sell the newborn was confirmed, the agent signaled for her arrest,” they said.
The baby is now in the National Capital Region’s Department of Social Welfare and Development’s custody.
“The successful operation highlights the government’s continuous efforts to fight human trafficking and protect society’s most vulnerable members,” said Santiago.
A week-old baby who was sold for P40,000 to a couple in Las Piñas City was saved by the NBI after they revealed a syndicate that sold newborns on Facebook in 2019.
