Vice President Sara Duterte shared her frustration after seeing an ad during her flight to Australia. The ad was about a hotel and showed different tourist spots in the Philippines. One part of the ad mentioned the San Juanico Bridge in Tacloban as a tourist spot.
Speaking at the “Free Duterte Now” rally in Melbourne, she said, “I got really irritated when I saw that. How can a 2.6-kilometer bridge be a tourist spot?”
The San Juanico Bridge, which is actually 2.16 kilometers long, is the longest bridge in the Philippines. It connects the islands of Leyte and Samar.
VP Sara added that a real tourist spot would be something like the 264-kilometer bridge in China that connects China and Macao. She said if the government wants to promote a bridge as a tourist attraction, it should be very long and connect many provinces—like from Cagayan de Oro to Dumaguete, or to Cebu and Bohol.
She also mentioned that the San Juanico Bridge is currently under repair due to structural problems, which makes it even less fit to be a tourist spot right now.
