TikTok Helps PNP Fight Cybercrime

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) is now working with TikTok to stop online scams and fight sexual exploitation.

Officials from the ACG and TikTok met at Camp Crame to plan ways to handle new cyber threats on the popular social media platform.

Col. Rommel Batangan, acting head of ACG, said TikTok, being one of the most popular social media platforms, is also used by scammers and other online criminals.

“This teamwork with TikTok will improve and speed up our cybercrime investigations. It shows our promise to make the internet safer for everyone,” Batangan said.

TikTok promised to support ACG by providing training sessions for investigators.

During their Dec. 18 meeting at the ACG office in Camp Crame, Quezon City, ACG spokesperson Lt. Wallen Mae Arancillo said TikTok received 108 complaints about scams from users.

Arancillo explained that some users sell products on TikTok but have become targets of online criminals.

In some cases, buyers received low-quality items instead of what they ordered. Others paid for items that were never delivered.

Arancillo also mentioned that TikTok has been used to share sexual exploitation content, which is another serious concern.
