Senate President: No Rush in VP Sara’s Impeachment

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero said that no number of signatures can speed up an impeachment trial if it does not follow the law.

Escudero explained that even with many signatures, he cannot be convinced to rush the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte. He stated that the law cannot be changed or ignored just to start the trial while the Senate is on recess.

“No amount of signatures will change the law or convince me to break it by starting the impeachment court during recess or without meeting the required conditions,” Escudero said.

He also emphasized that the law cannot be bent just to satisfy those who want to hasten the impeachment trial.

“The law is not flexible and should not be adjusted to suit anyone’s wishes just because they want to expedite the impeachment process against VP Sara,” Escudero added.

A group plans to collect one million signatures each month to push for the immediate start of the impeachment trial.
