General Benjamin Acorda will be replaced as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) by Police Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil, appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after the latter’s retirement.
Marbil’s appointment coincides with Acorda’s retirement, which Marcos prolonged until March 31, 2024, from its original December 2023 date.
As the 30th PNP chief, Marbil has set forward several important goals for the organization, some of which are to increase public trust in the police force, improve the professionalism and expertise of PNP officers, and preserve peace and order while fighting crime.
Marbil held a number of positions within the PNP before to taking on the top job. These included managing the PNP Highway Patrol Group, supervising the Eastern Visayas regional police, and directing the Directorate for Comptrollership.
Along with Acorda, Marbil graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1991 and brings a wealth of expertise to his current position.
Furthermore, it was declared by Malacañang that Police Lieutenant General Emmanuel Peralta would lead the PNP until a permanent replacement was named.
