President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally watched the destruction of a large amount of illegal drugs to make sure they will never be sold again. The burning was done through a process called thermal decomposition in Capas, Tarlac.
The total value of the drugs destroyed was ₱9,484,134,038.62. Most of them, worth around ₱8.87 billion, were found floating in the seas near Zambales, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Cagayan.
“We came here so I could see the whole process – from catching the drugs, to testing, and finally destroying them,” said President Marcos.
Other illegal substances from different anti-drug operations were also burned. These included marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, toluene, lidocaine, liquid drugs, and expired medicines that were no longer needed in court cases.
“I’ve never seen this before, so I was really interested. The chamber will reach a temperature of 700 degrees Celsius, which is hot enough to destroy all the active elements in the drugs,” Marcos explained.
The President said he wants to make sure that all seized illegal drugs are really destroyed and will never be sold again.
