President Marcos Starts New Caticlan Airport Project

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the start of construction for the new passenger terminal at Caticlan Airport on Monday. This project aims to help the local economy and improve the travel experience for millions of people visiting Boracay.

The terminal will be built by Megawide Construction Corporation and is expected to be finished in 24 months. Once done, the airport will be able to handle twice as many passengers as before, supporting the fast-growing tourism industry in the area.

“This will bring more people and help both the local and national economy,” said President Marcos. “Tourism now gives almost 8% of our country’s income, and we want to grow that even more.”

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon highlighted how public and private companies working together can improve transport projects. He also thanked San Miguel Corporation for promising to complete the terminal by 2027.

Dizon said, “Public-Private Partnership is very important because it helps us get the most out of our transport projects and makes travel easier for Filipinos.”

Caticlan Airport is the main airport used to reach Boracay. It was the fourth busiest airport in the country in 2024, with over three million passengers. With the new terminal, the airport will be able to handle up to seven million passengers each year.

The new terminal will have modern features such as better check-in counters, faster security checks, easier baggage handling, and improved boarding gates to reduce crowding and make travel more comfortable.

“This project will help Boracay stay as one of the world’s top tourist spots, while also boosting tourism and making travel better for local and international visitors,” Dizon added.
