Philippines Sends Rescue Team to Myanmar After Strong Earthquake

The Philippine government has sent a team to Myanmar to help with search, rescue, and recovery efforts after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit the country.

Led by the Office of Civil Defense, the Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PHIAC) includes members from different agencies. These include the Department of Health (DOH)-Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Team (PEMAT) and Urban Search and Rescue teams from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD).

The DOH team is made up of doctors, nurses, medical technologists, pharmacists, midwives, nursing attendants, and other support staff who will provide medical aid.

The team will stay in Myanmar for 18 days to offer emergency care, life support, trauma management, medicines, and isolation facilities for those in need. They can also refer patients to hospitals for further treatment.
