South Korean police will not pursue a prosecution involving actor Kim Soo-hyun after allegations he dated late actress Kim Sae-ron while she was a juvenile. The Seoul Seongdong Police Station said last year that the allegation made by Sae-ron’s family did not have enough evidence. So, the matter will not be handed over to prosecutors for a violation of Korea’s Child Welfare Act.
This isn’t the first time Soo-hyun has been cleared. Police also withdrew a similar charge in May after it was discovered that the “evidence” used against him was bogus. The bogus material was created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
The man who fabricated the proof is Kim Se-eui, who runs a YouTube channel called HoverLab. Last month, he was jailed for fabricating phoney screenshots and a fake audio recording that he claimed as “proof” that Soo-hyun and Sae-ron had an illicit connection.
Kim Sae-ron died in February 2025, aged 24. Her death was declared a suicide. She gained fame for her parts in “Bloodhounds”, “The Man From Nowhere” and “Secret Healer.”
Kim Soo-hyun has starred in “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” “The Producers,” “One Ordinary Day,” and “Queen of Tears.” “Queen of Tears” was his last project before the relationship rumours initially came out and became a massive topic.
“Knock-Off,” a drama starring Jo Bo-ah and Soo-hyun, never got released as scheduled because of the incident.
With this new update, authorities have now exonerated Soo-hyun twice – once for the bogus AI evidence, and again for the lack of evidence in the underage dating accusation itself.
