MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed a new case of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) in the Philippines. The patient is a 33-year-old Filipino male with no recent travel history but had close contact three weeks before symptoms began. His symptoms started over a week ago, with a fever followed by a rash on various parts of his body, including his face, back, and hands. The case was confirmed after testing samples from his skin lesions at a government hospital.
The last recorded case of mpox in the country was in December 2023. The World Health Organization has declared mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
