The number of crimes in Metro Manila dropped by 19.61% in January 2025, as reported by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, the acting NCRPO chief, shared that there were 451 crimes against people and properties in January 2025. This is 110 fewer cases compared to January 2024. He said the drop was due to stronger police actions against illegal drugs, unregistered guns, illegal gambling, and wanted criminals.
The biggest decreases were seen in cases of rape (46.49%), physical injuries (37.14%), homicide (28.57%), murder (17.65%), and theft (23.05%). The police also solved 92.46% of the cases and closed 72.73% of them successfully.
In addition, Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, head of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), said that 1,177 wanted persons and suspects were arrested in January. Police also recovered 139 guns, six explosives, and evidence worth P97.2 million.
The police are working hard to keep crime rates low in Metro Manila by continuing their crime prevention efforts.
