Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, who just returned to office, said he will declare a state of health emergency in the whole city because of the worsening garbage problem.
During his first press conference on Monday, June 30, 2025, Isko announced that he plans to declare the emergency in a meeting with the City Council on Tuesday, July 1.
He said, “For the past weeks and even today, Manila smells very bad because of the garbage.”
He added, “The health of our people is in danger because of this problem.”
“Tomorrow, I will ask the City Council to declare a state of health emergency for the entire City of Manila,” he said.
According to Mayor Isko, the city now owes ₱950 million to its garbage collector. This is one of the main reasons why garbage is piling up and not being collected in many parts of Manila.
He shared that he humbly asked Leonel Waste Management to help the city by using all available resources to clean Manila. Thankfully, the company agreed to help for free.
