A devastating fire swept through an area beneath the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, resulting in the destruction of approximately 300 houses.
Senior Fire Inspector Leo Andicoy from the Bureau of Fire Mandaue City Office stated that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The reported property damage is estimated at around P1.2 million.
The fire escalated to a third alarm at 12:22 p.m., but swift action led to it being declared under control by 12:42 p.m. and completely extinguished by 2:16 p.m.
In the aftermath, the affected residents have found refuge at the Looc Gymnasium, which is serving as their temporary evacuation center.
