Makabayan Candidate Castro: ‘Prices Are Rising, But Wages Are Not

ACT Teachers Partylist Representative France Castro said that the struggles of Filipinos have not changed. She shared her recent visit to Divisoria, where she checked on the current situation of the people.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, January 19, Castro posted photos of her walk around Divisoria. She was joined by Amirah Lidasan, co-chairperson of Sandugo and a fellow senatorial candidate under the Makabayan Coalition.

“Good morning, everyone! It’s a new day to fight for meaningful salary increases for our teachers and workers! #50KSalaryIncrease,” Castro wrote in her post.

She explained that she visited Divisoria to see how people are coping with the rising prices of basic goods.

The congresswoman mentioned that the price of tomatoes has soared to ₱300 per kilo, which is a heavy burden for many Filipinos.

“This is the reality under the Marcos-Duterte administration. It’s a new year, but the struggles of Filipinos remain the same,” Castro said.

Castro also reiterated the Makabayan Coalition’s call for higher wages and lower prices, emphasizing their slogan: “Raise wages, lower prices!”

Both Castro and Lidasan are part of the 11 senatorial candidates under the Makabayan Coalition for the 2025 midterm elections in May.
