For allegedly kidnapping four foreigners, four police officers—including a senior officer—have been taken into custody.
The four accused police officers were presented at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Wednesday by Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil of the Philippine National Police and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos.
Police Staff Sergeant Ralph Tumanguil, Police Senior Master Sergeant Angelito David, Police Master Sergeant Ricky Tabora, and Police Maj. Christel Carlo Villanueva were named as the suspects.
PSMG David is assigned to the Motorcycle Unit at the Makati City Police Station, PSSG Tumanguil to PNP-Region 4, PMSG Tabora to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and Maj. Villanueva to the Pasay City Police Station.
According to Marbil, the detained officers are connected to the June 2 kidnapping in Pasay City of three Chinese citizens and one Malaysian.
Tan Heng Fei, a 25-year-old Malaysian, Yang Zhuan Zhuan, 30, Zhi Yi Xuan, 32, and Meng Zhao, 29 were the victims who had been abducted.
According to initial police investigations, the victims were approached by two suspects riding PNP motorbikes when they were in a Lexus sedan (NEC 1768) on Taft Avenue in Pasay City.
The other two police officers, who were also riding motorcycles, pulled over the car shortly after, handcuffed the foreigners, and threw them into a white-silver van.
After escaping, two of the victims went to the barangay officials for assistance.
On June 3, the two remaining prisoners were reportedly paid a ransom and released.
