Kerwin Espinosa, a self-confessed drug lord, was shot while campaigning in Albuera, Leyte yesterday afternoon.
Espinosa is running for mayor of Albuera. Around 4:30 PM, while he was with other candidates at the covered court in Barangay Tinag-an, Leyte, someone suddenly shot him.
Espinosa and vice mayoral candidate Mariel Marinay were both injured and rushed to the hospital.
A minor was also hit during the shooting.
Reports say Espinosa was sitting on a plastic chair and getting ready to speak when he was shot.
According to witnesses, the gunman was hiding in the ceiling. He shot Espinosa from behind.
Police are now hunting for the suspect and continue to investigate the incident.
Kerwin is the son of former Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa, who was killed during a police search operation inside a jail cell in November 2016.
The former mayor was named by former President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the so-called narco-politicians.
