Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla said he is open to the idea of running for president in the 2028 elections. He made the statement during an interview when asked if he plans to seek the country’s top post. Remulla said the idea surprised him, but he did not reject it right away. He said a presidential run is “a possibility,” but no final decision has been made yet.
Remulla said several things must be considered before making such a big move. These include the support of his wife and the political situation in 2028. He said the election may become a clear choice between two different ways of governing and two different versions of the truth. For him, voters must clearly see the difference between candidates and decide which future they believe in.
Remulla has been in politics for nearly 30 years. He served four non-consecutive terms as governor of Cavite, a vote-rich province near Metro Manila. He now heads the Department of the Interior and Local Government and helps President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. oversee local governments. His name also appeared in a recent survey listing possible 2028 presidential candidates.
