Improved Access for Farmers and Residents: DPWH Completes Brgy. Metolza Farm-to-Market Road in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro

The Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office (DEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished pouring concrete on the Brgy. Metolza Farm-to-Market Road (FMR). This makes it easier and faster for people and farmers in Barangay Metolza, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro to get around.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said he would help farmers by making the roads and other transportation systems better so they can get their goods to market more easily and quickly. The newly paved road is part of that promise.

District Engineer Salvador E. Abad wrote to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, to say that the project will include building a two-lane, 579.57-linear-meter FMR. They put down Portland cement concrete pavement and an open-lined canal on the right side so that water could drain properly and not flood. To make the road safer and let the water flow better, single- and double-barrel culverts were put in over the river.

Every day, between 150 and 200 people, including farmers, residents, and local businesses, use this road. This improvement to the infrastructure should help them. It now takes 20 to 30 minutes less time to travel, which makes it faster and cheaper to move farm goods.

People believe that the new road will do more than just make it easier for people to get around. It will also help Naujan and the rest of Oriental Mindoro grow by bringing people together and making trade easier.

The DPWH is still working hard to improve rural areas and keep the country’s agricultural backbone strong through projects like this one.
