Imee Criticizes Chiz Over Senate Hearing Issue

Senator Imee Marcos called Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero ambitious and denied using a Senate hearing for political reasons.

“It’s funny when people say I’m using the Senate for politics because we all know he’s the ambitious one. I even forgot to campaign. I don’t know, but I think he has big plans,” Marcos said in a Zoom interview with reporters.

Marcos mentioned that a new Congress is coming, and a new Senate President will be chosen again.

“Of course, with a new Congress, there will be a new Senate President. Maybe he’s getting nervous. I don’t know. But I know he always has plans. He’s smart,” Marcos added.

Marcos earlier criticized Escudero for not signing the contempt order against Special Envoy Markus Lacanilao, who was accused of lying.

Escudero responded, saying Senate rules are meant to protect proper process and the integrity of the Senate.

“When procedures made to protect due process and integrity are ignored for media attention or political goals, the Senate’s credibility is at risk,” Escudero had said.

Escudero also said Marcos should stop using the Senate for her own political goals.

Marcos was once part of the administration’s Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas but left after former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested.

Marcos’ committee also investigated the events surrounding Duterte’s arrest.
