Alice Guo, a.k.a. Guo Hua Ping, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, was taken into custody late Tuesday night in Tangerang City, Jakarta, Indonesia. Guo was apprehended by the Indonesian Police at 11:58 p.m., according to confirmation from the Department of Justice (DoJ) and Senior Superintendent Audie Latuheru. She is currently being held at Jatanras Mabes Polri by Indonesian police.
Praising the arrest, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla emphasized the cooperation between international partners and law enforcement authorities. “This arrest shows the commitment of our agencies and the power of global cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice,” Remulla added.
The arrest was also verified by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who has been actively involved in the Senate’s investigation into Guo’s allegedly unlawful acts. He expressed his appreciation to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Indonesian authorities for their prompt action. Gatchalian stressed that Guo must answer for a number of offenses, including money laundering, human trafficking, and violating Senate orders.
The senator further demanded that Guo name her co-conspirators in the illegal activities in Bamban, particularly any government employees who might have assisted her. He remarked, “We need specific names to ensure that those involved face legal consequences.”
