Experience Hassle-Free Airport Security at HKIA with Smart Screening

Are you tired of having to take your personal belongings out of your bag for security screenings at airports? To improve the passenger experience and expedite the process, the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has implemented a new smart security screening system at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

With this new system, travelers can now leave their laptops, cell phones, electronic devices, liquids, gels, and aerosols inside their carry-on baggage during the screening process, eliminating the need to remove them.

This innovative system utilizes advanced 3D and 360-degree CT-based X-ray scanning technology to provide a thorough and efficient screening process. Additional features, such as integrated tray sterilization, auto tray recirculation, and automated alerts, are designed with passenger convenience in mind.

For those who trigger the archway metal detector, further screening will be carried out using a full-body scanner, replacing the traditional manual search with handheld detectors.

The smart screening system will be rolled out gradually throughout the airport, with the first installations going live on July 2 in Terminal 1’s South and North Departures Immigration Halls.

Steven Yiu, Executive Director of Airport Operations at AAHK, stated, “The upgrades to the security screening system at HKIA not only enhance overall screening performance but also make the mandatory airport procedures more pleasant for passengers, all while maintaining existing aviation security standards and requirements.”

With this advancement, HKIA becomes the first airport in the world to fully implement smart security screening channels.
