Embassy Makes Safety Plans for Filipinos in Iran

The Philippine Embassy in Tehran is talking to diplomats from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Turkmenistan. They are discussing possible land routes to help Filipinos leave Iran if the situation becomes more dangerous.

Philippine Ambassador to Iran Roberto Manalo said he has already spoken with the ambassadors of the three countries. This is part of their emergency plan if Filipinos need to be evacuated.

Missile attacks between Israel and Iran are still happening.

“I already talked to the ambassadors of those countries here in Iran. We will continue to negotiate with them,” said Manalo.

He said if evacuation by land is needed, they will follow the instructions of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Manalo reported that no Filipinos were hurt in the recent attacks from Israel. However, he said the situation in Iran remains tense.

“The situation is still very tense here, but we are safe for now. Of course, we are being very careful,” he added.

“We move carefully around Tehran. There are frequent attacks from Israel. We keep advising Filipinos to stay inside their homes,” Manalo said.

There are about 700 Filipinos registered with the Philippine Embassy in Iran. Most of them are married to Iranian citizens.

Manalo also said that so far, no Filipino has asked to be sent home.
