Dengue on the Rise: 150% Increase Reported in Quezon City

Quezon City is facing a concerning public health challenge as dengue cases surged by 150% this year. According to local health authorities. The sharp increase has raised alarms among residents and officials, prompting intensified efforts to control mosquito populations and prevent the disease. With hospitals seeing a rise in patients and communities urged to take extra precautions. The city is once again reminded of the urgent need for sustained dengue prevention and awareness campaigns.

Dengue Awareness

MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) is once again urging the public to maintain clean surroundings despite a recent week-on-week dip in dengue cases across the country. Health officials emphasized that vector control remains the most effective weapon against the mosquito-borne disease.

“We may already be seeing the impact of our 4 o’clock habit, the community clean-up drive against mosquitoes,” a DOH official said.

While cases have shown a slight decline week by week, the overall numbers remain significantly higher than last year. From January 1 to March 1 alone, more than 62,000 dengue infections were reported 73 percent higher compared to the 36,000 cases recorded in the same period of 2024. The regions of Calabarzon, the National Capital Region, and Central Luzon continue to register the highest number of cases.

Health authorities also reminded the public that dengue is no longer a seasonal disease. “We used to think dengue only peaked from June onwards, but changing weather patterns such as sudden rains, intertropical convergence zones, and shear lines have made it a year-round threat,” the DOH stressed.

To ensure swift treatment, hospitals nationwide have been directed to open dedicated “dengue fast lanes,” allowing patients with symptoms to receive immediate care and prevent severe complications.

Summary of Data

  • Total dengue cases reported: 62,000+
  • Comparison with 2024 (same period): 73% increase (36,000 cases in 2024 → 62,000 in 2025)
  • Regions with highest cases:
    • Calabarzon
    • National Capital Region (NCR)
    • Central Luzon
  • Trend: Week-on-week decline observed, but overall cases remain higher than last year

  • Important reminder: Dengue is now considered a year-round threat, not just a rainy season disease.

The alarming 150% rise in dengue cases in Quezon City underscores the urgent need for constant vigilance against the disease. As health officials ramp up mosquito-control initiatives and hospitals strengthen their response systems, the active participation of communities remains essential. Clean surroundings and the elimination of breeding sites are simple yet powerful defenses.
