Church Leaders Call on Quiboloy to Surrender Amid Davao Tensions

The controversial preacher Apollo Quiboloy, who is wanted by the police, has been urged to surrender by the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) following a clash in Davao City between members of his Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) and police officers.

Over 2,000 police officers are currently searching for Quiboloy within the KOJC compound. The situation escalated when a prayer protest led by Quiboloy’s followers turned violent, resulting in injuries to at least seven police officers.

“In light of the ongoing situation involving Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and the accused members of KOJC, we urge him to consider surrendering to the authorities. It is essential to recognize that no one is above the law, and facing accusers and investigations peacefully is a fundamental principle of justice,” said Bishop Noel Pantoja, the PCEC National Director.

He further encouraged everyone to be instruments of peace, saying, “Together, let us work towards a resolution that honors justice, upholds human dignity, and fosters a spirit of peace within our nation.”

In a separate statement, Archbishop of Davao Romulo Valles echoed the call for calm and peace throughout the city. “I am morally compelled to speak out for peace and to appeal for calmness and sobriety among the people of Davao City, especially those involved in the ongoing situation at the KOJC Compound,” Valles added.

Valles acknowledged that many people, both within and outside Davao, want to see the rule of law respected, but he expressed concern about the overwhelming police presence in the area. “I appeal for the immediate peaceful resolution of the situation and for mutual respect and reflection from all parties. Let us respect the humanity of everyone and their inherent rights. Let sobriety guide our judgment and actions,” he said.

Despite having several arrest warrants issued against him, Quiboloy has long evaded capture. Numerous allegations of sexual abuse and human trafficking have led to the preacher’s wanted status. In addition to local warrants, Quiboloy is also listed by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation as one of their most wanted for human trafficking.
